SIGAR, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, has a highly specialized mission reporting to both the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State on our independent and objective oversight of Afghanistan reconstruction. We are focused on promoting economy, efficiency and effectiveness and preventing and detecting waste, fraud and abuse in reconstruction programs and operations supported by U.S. taxpayer funds.  SIGAR is a temporary organization enacted to ensure accountability during the period of U.S. involvement in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
